Information about Årdal:

- lies in region Sogn og Fordane. Norway
- population 6000
- two communities, Årdalstangen & Øvre Årdal
- modern industry community with old society in farming and fishing
- sorrounded by dramatic nature with high mountains and waterfalls
- Årdal is good starting point to explore Norwegian nature ( national parkJotonheimen)

Årdal is divided in two towns. Årdalstangen and Øvre Årdal with mountains situated around. In the middle is a lake called Årdalsvatnet. It takes four hours to drive from Bergen by car, which is the nearest for tourist when coming to Norway by plane. Årdal area is self sufficient in many areas of service: hospital, culture, shopping, schools and cinema.
 
The lake and mountains arround Årdal area give pleasant potensial to create new activities. Lake has been used by boats to deliver factory- materials and its two meters above the sea. Årdal is important industryal community. It generates the import and export through Alluminiumsverket, and out the world.

Intensions of the site area:
- possible new public spaces
- integrate city ( Årdals Tangen & Øvre Årdal) in project
- functional systems ( cycles, pedestrians, tourist routes ).
- NEW recreational activities

Scale:
- give floating structure human scale
- conect visible sightlines to macroscale (mountain)
- connecting public interests to the site from residential areas in Øvre Årdal.

program:

- communication between Øvre Årdal and The Site

- floating structure
- sleeping units
- a place that draws visitors by providing a sleeping space (tourists,locals)

- a place to rest before walk in the mountain
- new activities:
a place to rent a boat,kayack use the lake in new ways

- use the lakeside and create a new structure next to it
- give floating spaces a human scale
