To see with new eyes:
Project by Sindre Reime
How can you help people to see again and to see better? To see with new eyes? In Årdal and in it´s surroundings there are many things that can catch the eye. I gathered all my experiences from Årdal in a collage. Some of the situations where more interesting. These i tried to illustrate by adding words. But how can i show what I have seen to others? By using words and their definitions I have sketched startingpoints for projects in three of these situations:

Utladalen now

Utladalen is a valley with high mountains, alot of landslides and a river with a rapid stream. Here people have built a road by means of voluntary work, just to reach the Vetti farm. There is alot of sights to catch the eye when passing through Utladalen. The valley is full of experiences waiting and wanting to be seen. Most of them are ignored. One of these experiences is a small cave with a piece of timber pinched between the walls of the opening. The cave is in the rapid stream, not accessible without getting very wet. Has humans ever been there? on this site there are two bridges. One is like all the others on the road up to the Vetti farm. The other one is an old suspension bridge. It has been allowed to stay in it´s place even though it´s not in use anymore.
Intentions
My startingpoint is with the word float. So my aim is to get closer to the water. By coming down to the rapid stream you get a new perspective of the valley and you can easier experience the mystique and the force of nature. The landscape in Utladalen is very overwhelming. You can take in small portions of it by fading parts away. There is no question about the fact that you are between two mountains, but what tells you that you are between water and sky? Fading away the horizon and stepping onto a plate of glass hovering over the rapid stream, will you then look up into the blue sky? Feeling is also seeing. When a person can`t see or their sight is poor they can have a greater experience of the situation by adding things that they can feel, not only see. Perforated plates with braille can be inprinted with sentences that tells about what the landscape contains. Show the poetry. To tell about the additions to this bridge I give a feel of change introducing the new entrances.
