In our collective consienceness, the mountains represent the permanenet. A timescale that
goes beyond our lifespan and shows itself by its size and mass. The mountains we walk
on were created by the forces of nature 400 million years ago. the project is about placing
a space to remember lost friends and our experiences with them in a situation of
permanence. In the mountains, time shows itself in cycles of seasons, human tracks
appearing and disappearing and the climate rubbing
everything down slowly. Most memorialsites are static
monuments, this memorialsite is continually created
and kept alive by its users and visitors. |

Most memorialsites are static monuments made in the memory of certain persons. The aim for this project is to be both for the explorers breaking ground for the common society, but also for every hiker or mountaineer who has someone missing them on their trip in the mountains. The memorialsite has spaces for people to leave small things which reminds them of their lost ones. Maybe a note or a personal belonging or a candle.
The space is also suited for common ceremonies, maybe connected to the loss of a public figure or certain gatherings such as the Mountain Filmfestival.
The project is situated on the lower part of the ridge Dyrhaugsryggen in
Hurrungene. Not to far from the Mountainhotel Turtagrø and relatively close to the path leading up skagastølsdalen. A small detour off the track leads you to the memorialsite. |

lThe shaping of the site relates to the act of walking in, and experiencing the landscape. The site is made up from walls
differing in height, relating to both the
body and the landscape in different
ways in different places. It is structured
east-west to connect the two bigscale-
spaces, skagadalen and ringsdalen.
Three walls are lined north south, and
these are reserved for the public scale achievements and persons. Only one
road is made, the rest will be for the
feet to create. |

Construction principles |
|
| |
Concrete elements, three sizes makes a wall with a random pattern of openings. The openings creates space for a candle or object |
|
 |
| |
Imagine, passing by on your way back in the dusk, stopping by the walls and lighting a candle for your friend that could not join you or just for the sake of a light in the dark.
Or imagine the five hundred participants of the mountainfilmfestival, meeting at the site. Each lighting a candle in the memory of those lost in the mountains and keeping one minute of silence as the whole wall lights up. |
