To open up an old road
To see more while walking
To find a mystery
To connect øvre Årdal - Tangen |
Årdalsvatnet lies between
Tangen and Øvre Årdal as
a common ground. It is
difficult to experience the
water today.
The road between Tangen
and Øvre Årdal is for cars
only. One travels high-speed.
THE OLD ROAD LIES NEAR TO
THE WATER, WITH SEVERAL
CLOSED TUNNELS. THE ROAD
IS PARTLY CONNECTED TO
THE OLD ROAD
MY AIM IS TO OPEN UP THE
OLD ROAD AND FOCUS
ON AREAS THAT DIFFERS IN
CHARACTER..
| |
Sitespecific:
What you see, walking on
the old road. |
| |
New vegetation covers
the old road. Moss
creates a soft carpet on
the asphalt. The road
made by human, is being
decorated by nature. |
Moving through several
closed tunnels. The
tunnelwalls have got
holes, which creates
strong viewpoints. |
When walking on the old
road, you get a better contact
with the other side of the water
and the waterfront. |
The hillsides are steep
and you`re being forced
to turn around due to
a rockslide on the old
road. |
THE FIRST SITUATION IS IN
THE BEGINING OF THE OLD ROAD.
YOU`RE MOVING ON A NARROW
PATH.
ON EACH SIDE YOU HAVE WALLS
OF VEGETATION. THE TREES DECIDES
WHAT YOU SEE. |
AIM
I WISH TO ENHANCE THE WALLS OF VEGETATION BY SETTING
UP A CONSTRUCTION IN ALUMINIUM.
AS VEGETATION IT DECIDES WHAT YOU SEE
ON THE OLD ROAD YOU WALK THROUGH
THREE CLOSED TUNNELS.
I WISH TO USE THE TUNNELSWALLS,
MAKING A NEW TUNNEL HANGING ON THE
OUTSIDE OF THE MOUNTAINSIDE.
AIM
ONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE FAR BY
CONCENTRATING THE VIEW. |
| |
INSIDE: PERFORATED ALUMINIUM
OUTSIDE: POLISHED ALUMINIUM |
SPOTLIGHTS INSIDE THE PERFORATED WALLS |
| |
The inside of
the new tunnel,
made of bulky
aluminium.
Hanging on the
mountainside. |
`
On the old road you`re
being stopped by a rockslide.
AIM
Instead of moving the rocks
I choose to build a road inside
the mountain.You enter on side
of the avalanche and exit on the
other.
One should have a special experience
walking inside the mountain. |
