From 2001 till 2007 Sluik (NL,1961) was living in Chisinau, the capital of the rep. Moldova. He co-founded there the artcentre and publishinghouse AoRTa, initiated the Moldovan Art Foundation (MaF), started a department for contemporary photography within the State University and set up an international artist in residency program.
He began to survey his new town using an old Rolleicord camera resulting into an archive of more than 10.000 negatives. In the lecture the focus will be on the recent architectural changes in post-soviet urban surroundings using supposedly innocent children slides as a startingpoint.
In the period 1982 -2000 his work was mainly focused on videoart and site specific installations within a historical and narrative context. His works can be found amongst several other collections in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Centre Pompidou Paris.
